Advice, guidance and support

Hackney Community College provides advice, guidance and support to students with mental health support needs to find meaningful employment, voluntary work and work experience placements.

Mental ill-health often leads to a loss of confidence, making it difficult for people to access employment or learning or retain their jobs.

Our Employment Adviser is here to fully support people in their efforts to find the right job.
Many people want to change direction, particularly when they’ve finished a training course.
Some people look for a fresh start with new found talents, others use previous skills to forge ahead.

We help individuals compile CVs, carry out job searches, complete applications forms and write covering letters. If required, we will provide interview practice and try to arrange accompanying clients to job interviews.

We will also provide a workshops and a drop-in support service which is held in the Career Centre.

Drop-in support

Drop in is in a pleasant environment where you can get advice, guidance and support in education, training and employment.

Go along to A112 to have a look at the drop-in times that are available.

This workshop will help you to plan your own learning and career development. It will also help you to recognise the knowledge, understanding and skills you already have and how to recognise and record your skills effectively.

  • Goal-setting and confidence-building
We will set long and short term goals, focusing on the importance of taking small steps and on creating confidence to help you get to where you want to go. We will also look at identifying and overcoming any barriers and negative beliefs which can stop you from moving forward.
