Hospitality and Catering student secures work experience with the Savoy
Hackney Community College Hospitality and Catering student Tony Smart was offered an exclusive place on prestigious hotel The Savoy’s work experience programme.
Tony, who studies Professional Cookery at the London City Hospitality Centre (LCHC), HCC’s hospitality and catering training centre, was selected to work in the kitchens of the renowned Savoy for two weeks .
The trainee chef, aged 39, from Walthamstow, supported other chefs with preparing a range of dishes as part of the placement.
Tony secured a place on the programme, co-ordinated by the Savoy and training charity Springboard, after an impressive application and interview– standing out from a great number of other applicants.
This kind of invaluable experience is just what current city law firm office manager Tony needed to help kick-start his catering career.
He credits HCC and its outstanding facilities and teaching for helping him to turn his cooking hobby into a career goal.
He said: “I am really looking forward to working at the Savoy and will definitely make the most of this fantastic opportunity. It is one of the top places to work as a chef and I am proud to have been selected.”
