London’s top class cabinetmaker
Hackney Community College’s Carpentry and Joinery student Mark Bryant proved to be one of the best in London at his trade after winning top honours in the regional heat of SkillBuild 2011, the UK’s biggest skills competition.
The Level 2 student competed against other trainees from across the capital to win first place in the Cabinetmaking category and a coveted place in the national finals.
His ability was challenged with a set test plan which he had to complete under very strict guidelines and conditions.
He was then assessed and judged on accuracy and efficiency while working against the clock, by various trade experts.
He will go on to represent London at the national finals in Leeds.
Mark, from Brixton, said: “ I had no doubt that Carpentry was the trade for me after working with such experienced tutors at Hackney Community College and gaining so much knowledge from them.”
