Adam joins hard work and success

Hackney Community College’s Carpentry and Joinery student Adam Connolly proved to be one of the best in London at his trade after winning top honours in the regional heat of SkillBuild 2011, the UK’s biggest skills competition.

The Level 2 student, from Stoke Newington, competed against other trainees from across the capital to win first place in the Joinery category and a coveted place in the national finals.

His ability was challenged with a set test plan which he had to complete under very strict guidelines and conditions.

He was then assessed and judged on accuracy and efficiency while working against the clock, by various trade experts.

Adam will go on to represent London at the national finals in Leeds.

He said: “It felt like an achievement in itself to be put forward to take part in the contest. I did my best to reflect the high standard of teaching I have experienced in Carpentry and Joinery at Hackney Community College.”
