Annual Student Awards Winners 2011: Student Most Likely to Succeed in the Workplace Award (recognising the Olympic / Paralympic value of Determination)

Posted 14th February

Nick and John are excellent examples of HCC students who are bound to succeed in the workplace. While studying on their Entry Level Construction course, they knew that work experience would be really valuable to them. So, they proactively went to Hackney Homes during their half-term break and asked them directly for a work placement. This move really paid off, as they were offered a position where they worked as caretakers for local gardens and parks.

They worked very hard and have now successfully completed their placement. Hackney Homes were so impressed that they covered the story in their news magazine:

“Ground Maintenance Team takes them on:
Two young people from Hackney Community College have been taken on by the grounds maintenance team. John Cocker and Nick Purdue took the initiative to come to Dunloe Street depot and enquire if there were any opportunities to work. This positive approach paid off as both of them will be working with the team, gaining valuable work experience in the field.”

It just goes to show that confidence and believing in yourself can really pay off.
