BTEC Sports student Tresor Mashaka is the Junior European Karate champion.
He was one of the budding local sports stars to benefit from the first round of Youth Sports Fund grants from Hackney council and received a Gold award for achievements in the field of karate. As well as his cash prize, Tresor won a sports kit and free use of all of Hackney’s leisure centres.
Tresor said: “I’m really pleased to have received the award – I will use the money to buy a new Karate suit and for my trip to the European Karate Championships in Serbia and Montenegro where I will be defending my title.”
Tresor’s tutor Tom Brinkley said: “Tresor is a very good student with superb attendance. He is heading for a distinction on his BTEC and we hope he’ll stay on and progress to the next level next year. He is a great role model.”
No mean feat alongside his national training regime!
