Tiling students decorate City Hall

Posted 21st October

Jennette Arnold, Chair of the London Assembly, met students at their new tiling facility where she commented “ as ever I’m inspired by the commitment of work and effort that staff put in everyday to ensure that students can develop and learn a new skill. The students can start to make a living – and it’s a great skill to have.”

Two of the students, Emerald Skerrett and Derek Jackson, who met Jennette presented her with two beautiful mosaics to display in City Hall. One of the creative mosaics was a colourful butterfly and the other was a chick in an egg.

Jennette had previously met several other HCC students after a tiling student, Valerie Antoine, won a gold medal at the Olympic Skills Showcase. Her work was a creative interpretation of a swimmer diving into a pool. Jennette liked the piece so much it is on display at the prestigious City Hall – which will sit alongside the two new pieces.
