Annual Student Awards 2012 Winner: Effort and Determination (Olympic / Paralympic value of Determination)
Posted 27th February
Kamwah Madeleine Ennis is studying on the first year of the BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Health and Social Care course.
When she came to the College, she was offered a place on the Level 2 course instead of Level 3, because the latter was oversubscribed.
Madeleine clearly did not mind starting at a lower level and was overjoyed to have been accepted on a course at the College.
She had not been in education for a long time and with very little formal qualifications, lacked confidence.
As soon as a place became available, Madeleine was transferred to the level 3 course. She
has proved to be a mature, reliable and very conscientious student with 100% attendance and punctuality.
Madeleine is making excellent progress on the course and clearly enjoys being a student and learning new skills. She has excellent verbal communication skills and her written skills have vastly improved.
She has a very positive and mature attitude to her work which is encouraging to those around her.
As a student, in a short space of time Madeline has proven to be a role model to her classmates, whom she regularly supports with their course work. They often go to her for advice and she is highly respected by all her peers and staff. She was voted in as the class representative; a position she embraces.
Madeleine has decided to change her career from working for a well-established name in the retail industry to working in the care sector. She is making huge sacrifices to attend a full time course while additionally working full time to pay for her tuition fees and other expenses.
To hold down these two full time challenging activities, she must demonstrate excellent organisational skills.
She has the determination and enthusiasm to succeed at the highest level – and may well go on to university to train to become a qualified psychotherapist.
Madeleine is somewhat of a perfectionist who spends many hours redrafting her course work before submitting it. She is well on her way to achieving distinction grades for all the units studied.
Madeleine is a very special person and a true star!
