Annual Student Awards 2012 Winner: Vocational Achievement (Olympic / Paralympic value of Excellence)
Posted 27th February
Maria Agbigbe started at HCC as a vocational learner on the BTEC Introductory Certificate in Art, Design and Digital Media level 1. She completed this qualification with flying colours and progressed to level 2 studying on the BTEC First Diploma in Media.
Again passing at a high standard, Maria advanced to the BTEC National Diploma in Media Production (Television & Film) and completed the last academic year with a Distinction, Distinction, Distinction.
Maria is a worthy winner for this award, as she has shown serious commitment to her studies. She strived incredibly hard to meet all deadlines to a very good standard; she was never happy with a grade lower than a Distinction and worked hard to achieve this.
She came in on her days off work, to complete projects and to practise her skills as a filmmaker.
She also made films outside of class time, which showed that she is determined to be an accomplished director.
She was involved in the Robert Levy Foundation film summer school in previous years, as well as working on the first two productions for the College’s in-house production company Past and Present Productions.
Her attendance and punctuality were exceptional over the 4 years and she was rarely late or missed a lesson; which was commendable, particularly as she had a job in the morning before her 9am lessons!
Maria has been successful in achieving a place at Bournemouth University, where she is studying on a BA (Hons) Film Production degree.
She is a true, positive example of the success that can be achieved through vocational study.
