Beijing staff enjoy Hackney summer training
Posted 5th August 2010
Teachers and managers from the Beijing School of Economics and Management have enjoyed a varied three weeks in London, hosted by Hackney Community College.

The main aim of the trip is for the staff to develop skills and knowledge to evaluate their organisation’s effectiveness and look at new ways to meet the needs of their students and employers. They’ve also specifically focused on learning how to deliver a UK Financial Services Qualification.
“Hackney Community College is very comfortable and clean. I like it very much. I will miss it”: Ji Ping
The group is also interested in the Hackney community in comparison to the Haidan district where they are based in Beijing. They see many similarities between the two colleges, however they are particularly interested in the diversity of the people they’ve seen around Hackney. They’re also pleasantly surprised: “People smile and say ‘Hello’ with everybody!”: Li Ying
Alongside the rigorous training schedule, the visitors have enjoyed and valued the rich social and cultural experience of staying in the capital. And the shopping!
The training visit is an example of the work that Hackney Community College is increasingly delivering to colleges and government officials across the world – to share best practice in areas such as vocational education and student support. Trainees also learn about management systems and processes, marketing, employer liaison and strategic management.
The relationship between the Beijing School of Economics and Management and HCC began with principal Ian Ashman’s work with London and Beijing colleges. He led a project for the two Olympic host cities to learn from each other to make sure that our students and communities get the greatest benefits possible from hosting the Games.
