Art and Design students tell tales through fashion
Posted 13th May 2010

Hackney Community College’s Art and Design students wowed a huge audience with their creative genius at the recent Alternative Fashion Week with a magnificent display of their designs.
The level 3 students modelled their outlandish outfits at the reputable fashion show in front of a host of professionals, including established fashion designers, manufacturers, fashion consultants and the media.
Telling Tales was the design collection’s theme which was inspired by an exhibition they had visited at the V&A Museum. The students used various fashion and textile techniques to create their designs, including silk fibre bonding, heat transfer print, sewn multiples and fabric manipulation.
Every year our students showcase their remarkable talent at Alternative Fashion Week, which takes place in trendy Spitalfields Market, and for many this sort of exposure proves invaluable for getting a place at university.
Jennifer Hughes, Art and Design lecturer, said: “This project is an exciting opportunity for our students to design and make dynamic, avant-garde costumes which enhances their higher education progression portfolios. As a result, many of our Art and Design students gain HE places in prestigious universities.”
