HCC students get a taste of the Vancouver Winter Games
Posted 16th February 2010
Students and a tutor from the London City Hospitality Centre here at HCC are spending the first week of the 2010 Winter Olympics in host city Vancouver.
Phillip Harrison (Hospitality Level 1)
Tiago Gomes (Professional Cookery Level 2)
Bonnita Beasley (Professional Cookery Level 3)
and Christopher Skippers (Chef Tutor)
are visiting Vancouver to see how a host city manages the vast catering demands during Games-time.
HCC’s London City Hospitality Centre was set up with a direct remit to help to train people for the hospitality that’ll be needed in the run up and during London 2012, so this visit is really important to us.
The visit is being hosted by Vancouver Community College and our students are getting along well with their Canadian counterparts, as well as fellow Londoners from Barnet College.
They’ve seen the Olympic flame at close quarters and saw the spectacle of the opening ceremony (in the rain).
They’ve helped Aboriginal students to prepare a traditional meal, including smoking the salmon ““ for a Winter Olympics Fashion show.
Since the start of the Games proper, they’ve been proudly volunteering ““ serving food and helping out aslongside their new Canadian friends. As well as a liberal sprinkling of sightseeing and socialising.
