Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector
The purpose of the qualification is to provide an introduction to teaching adult learning, for all new entrants to the sector. The aim is to equip new teachers with the practical skills and knowledge they need to perform their role and allow them to enter the QTLS (Qualified Teacher, Learning and Skills) framework.

PGCE Generic (year 1)
This is the first year of a two-year initial teacher training course for people who are already teaching in the lifelong learning sector. We run the course in partnership with the Institute of Education, which is where trainees will do the second year of the course. Interviews and initial assessment for the course will be held at the Institute of Education, as that is where you will be enrolled. You need to apply to the Institute of Education for an application form. They will invite you to an interview and initial assessment. This will take about half a day, as we need to be sure that you are capable of doing a high level course and are likely to be able to complete the two years.

PGCE Literacy / ESOL (year 1)
This course is the first part of an Institute of Education course for people wishing to teach adult literacy or ESOL. It leads to a full qualification, covering teaching standards and adult literacy and ESOL subject content. You will spend one year in this college and the second year at the Institute of Education. Interviews and initial assessment for the course will be held at the Institute of Education, as that is where you will be enrolled. You need to apply to the Institute of Education for an application form. They will invite you to an interview and initial assessment. This will take about half a day, as we need to be sure that you are capable of doing a high level course and are likely to be able to complete the two years.
