NEW HE Courses at HCC – apply now to start in September 2012
Hackney Community College is offering a new range of affordable, high-quality, higher education courses. Our HNC/HNDs are classified as full-time courses and cost £3,295. Typically, you will spend 2 days or evenings a week studying at the College. All the 1-year HNCs lead to HNDs in year 2 if you want to progress. (The Health and Social Care management course is a 2-year HNC, but still costs £3,295). Many students study HE part-time to improve career – and salary – prospects. HNCs and HNDs are recognised by employers as strong qualifications for managerial positions.
Fees – Can I afford it?
There’s been a lot of debate about fees for higher education. We are very happy to be able to offer high quality courses at an affordable cost. And, there’s good news! You can now apply for a student loan when you choose to study an HNC at Hackney Community College. To apply, click on this link and follow the instructions. An HNC will cost students just £3,295. We are pleased to offer this rate again for the second year to top up to an HND in 2013/14. (subject to final confirmation).

Business HNC/HND

A business qualification can set you up for life. Taking this course will prepare you with essential skills for work and higher level study. There’s a great range of theoretical and practical subjects in this course. Along with Business ethics and aspects of contracts give you a thorough grounding in the subject, you’ll study managing resources, including staff; marketing (including internet marketing), accounting, and business strategy and decision making. You’ll also carry out a research project and you could focus on setting up your own business with the small business enterprise module or study the wider European business field.

Computing & Systems Development HNC/HND
Students on this course will benefit from a specialist vocational programme in IT and will be prepared for a number of careers in computing – either in an IT company or an IT department of a firm in any other sector. It also offers a progression route to higher level study and professional qualifications.

You will study computer systems, systems analysis and design, quality systems and data analysis and design along with data structures and algorithms. The course covers a number of programming languages, website design and management and digital images. Business skills and e-commerce strategy, along with employability skills, project design, implementation and evaluation, will really set you up for your dream job in IT.

Fashion & Textiles HNC/HND
Advance your existing skills by studying an exciting range of fashion and textile techniques, from pattern cutting, garment construction, textiles, knit, fashion styling, marketing and business. This exciting course is ‘hands on’ and offers training that is based on the needs of employers and professional bodies. East London boasts a concentrated hub of fashion companies – just a stone’s throw from our Shoreditch campus.

As part of the course you will be given ‘live briefs’ set by clients who work in the fashion and textiles industry to encourage you to generate ideas with a client or purpose in mind. You will also have an industry work-placement and carry out a research project. As well as the practical textiles skills, you will also study professional practice, project design, implementation and evaluation – with those all important employability skills – to really set you up for a successful future. There’s even a module on managing a creative business.
The fashion and textiles skills covered include fashion styling with digital media, production techniques with constructed textiles, printed textiles, fashion patterns and garment manufacturing.

Health & Social Care Management HNC/HND
Two year HNC leading to HND

This exciting new course is designed to provide a specialist work-related programme of study that covers the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills needed for supervisor or management positions in the health and social care sector.
You’ll develop skills and techniques, and personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life – enabling you to make an immediate contribution to employment. On the course you will develop transferable skills and knowledge so you can meet changing circumstances; whether moving within your own area of employment, moving up to a supervisory or management position, or adapting to general changes in the health and social care environment.
For aspiring managers, the modules on human resources and finance management are a must.

Hospitality Management HNC/HND
Based in our industry-standard kitchens and chic, fully lisensed Hoxton Street restaurant, this course will qualify you for a management role in the thriving hospitality industry. You may choose to follow specialist areas including culinary arts, licensed management, retail management, and food and beverage.

All students on the hospitality management course must study the contemporary hospitality industry, customer service, operations and management accounting, as well as management development. You will also take part in an industry work placement.
Specialist units you can choose from cover procurement, hospitality management, conferences and banqueting, food and society, contracts and events, people management, quality management and marketing. You could even focus on small business enterprise, to prepare you for your own business!

Interactive Media HNC/HND
London is the heart of the digital media industry, and east London is where it’s at. This course is a step up from level 3 in an art, design or digital media qualification and covers a fabulous collection of subjects ranging from Web/Game Design, Moving Image (TV and film), Graphic design and Digital media. This exciting course is ‘hands on’ and you’ll get training based on the needs of employers and professional bodies.
As part of the course you will be given ‘live briefs’ set by clients who work in the Media industry to encourage you to generate ideas with a client or purpose in mind.

You’ll study design principles and project design, implementation and evaluation. You could focus on advertising, graphic or typographic design; interactive audio visual, video production or photographic techniques. The course will also include employability skills and industry work experience to set you on the path to your future success in the creative industry.

Sport (Health, Fitness & Exercise) HNC/HND

This exciting course is “hands on” and offers training based on the needs of employers and professional bodies. The HNC/HND has been developed to focus on providing education and training for a range of careers in Active Leisure. If successful, you will achieve a nationally recognised, vocationally specific qualification to enter or progress in your career. Job roles could include performance analysis, nutrition for sport and exercise, sports development, sports coaching, education, research and development.
