Level 2 Fitness Instructor
This course is ideal if you want to work as a qualified fitness instructor teaching fitness and exercise sessions in leisure centres, community and voluntary centres, gyms or youth clubs. The qualification recognises the skills, knowledge and competence of a learner to plan, teach and evaluate fitness sessions for adults.
Course content
The course covers:
- Anatomy and physiology including:
- the heart and circulatory system
- the respiratory system
- structure and function of the skeleton
- musculoskeletal system
- postural and core stability
- the nervous and energy systems and their relation to exercise
- How to maintain health, safety and welfare in a variety of fitness environments, including the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults
- How to programme safe and effective exercise for a range of clients, the health benefits of physical activity and the importance of healthy eating
- How to communicate with clients effectively, and motivate clients to adhere to an exercise programme
- The skills and knowledge required to plan and prepare a gym-based exercise programme with apparently healthy adults – both individuals and groups. This may include young people in the 14-16 age range, provided they are part of a larger adult group. Client groups also covered are older adults, ante and postnatal clients and disabled clients provided the relevant contraindications and key safety guidelines are observed.

- How to support clients
- Planning gym-based exercise
- Instructing gym-based exercise
Assessment
Assessment is by a combination of:
- Multiple choice theory paper/eAssessment
- Practical examination
- Worksheets
Entry requirements
You should have some experience in a health and fitness discipline, and some prior knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
Progression
Advanced Certificate in Personal Training (CYQ3) or employment in fitness instruction.
Average length of course
We usually run this for 9 hours week, over an 18-week period. However, we can run any attendance model to suit your needs.

Personal Training: CYQ Level 3 Certificate
Certificate in Personal Training (36 credits)
The aim of this qualification is to recognise the skills, knowledge and competence required for an individual to work unsupervised as a personal trainer. This includes being able to offer one-to-one training, baseline assessment, nutritional advice and progressive programming which is specific to the individual needs of a client.

- How to apply the principles of nutrition to support client goals as part of an exercise and physical activity programme
- How to design, manage, and adapt a personal training programme with apparently healthy adults of all ages
- How to deliver exercise and physical activity as part of a programme for apparently healthy adults of all ages

Understanding Stewarding at Spectator Events: NCFE Level 2 Award
Award in Understanding Stewarding at Spectator Events
This qualification aims to:
- provide an introduction to the role of a steward at spectator events
- develop the knowledge and understanding of key concepts which underpin spectator control
- provide progression towards National Occupational Standards, specifically the NVQ in Spectator Safety at Level 2.
Who should go on this course
Anyone considering a career in stewarding at spectator safety events. It is also suitable for anyone already working in the industry on a voluntary, part time or casual basis who wishes to formalise and further develop his or her existing experience and skills.
Course content
This qualification consists of 4 mandatory units:
- How stewards prepare for spectator events
- How stewards control the entry, exit and movement of spectators at events
- How stewards monitor crowds and respond to potential crowd problems at spectator events
- How to respond to injuries, illnesses and other emergencies in active leisure and learning
Assessment
The course is internally assessed. The candidate must produce a portfolio of work that covers all learning outcomes of this qualification. The main pieces of evidence for the portfolio could include:
- Assessor observation – completed observational checklists and related action plans
- witness testimony
- candidate product
- worksheets
- assignments/projects/reports
- professional discussion
- record of oral and written questioning
- candidate and peer reports
• Accreditation of Prior Achievement (APA) - Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)
- Evidence may be drawn from actual or simulated situations, where appropriate.
