Digital Video Editing with Final Cut Express
This course introduces Digital Video editing and extends traditional video editing techniques allowing more productive working and access to a wider range of tools. In addition, digital video can be integrated into the new digital disk and network media.
The intention of this module is to provide an understanding of the theoretical and practical skills needed to work with and edit digital video. Students will develop a short project usually based on production work generated in another module or programme.
The online modules combine an interactive instructor led course assessment with exercise files, real work samples, and discussion forum.

Units include:
- Select relevant video formats and capture settings.
- Ensure that video is saved to suitable storage devises.
- Explain the relationship between an edit decision file and online and offline video clips, both in digital video and traditional video systems.
- Use a range of techniques to mark in and out points on video clips prior to sequencing them.
- Place video clips using a range of techniques e.g. ‘three point edit’.
- Amend edit points using a range of productivity tools e.g. rolling edit.
- Create moving titles and credits that take account of video television safe areas.
- Source sound from and external source such as Audio CD.
- Adjust edit points to synchronise sound and control fading in and out.
- Explain the key features of a digital video capture system.
- Explain how and why digital video files are compressed.

This course covers the fundamental skills required for creating professional pages with InDesign. Practical projects are used to demonstrate various production scenarios. You will learn how to plan, create and edit a range of documents.
