This is a practical course which develops operative’s skills and sets operative’s standards to carry out cleaning tasks in a safe, efficient and effective manner. We can offer training at the college or within your work place.

Cleaning and Support Services Apprenticeship

This Apprenticeship is aimed at people who are working in a cleaning capacity in a range of sectors, from factories to offices, who need to improve their skills or gain a nationally accredited qualification.

The course covers all the practical cleaning tasks including floor maintenance, as well as generic skills and knowledge required such as health and safety, promoting customer service and teamwork.

The programme consists of:

  • Level 2 Certificate in cleaning and support service skills
  • Level 2 Certificate in cleaning principles
  • Maths and English at level 1

Core units include:

  • Health and Safety
  • Working with customers and others
  • Waste (routing and non routine)

Optional units include:

  • Prepare for and carry out interior and washroom cleaning
  • Deep cleaning
  • Periodic cleaning of soft floors and furnishings
  • Periodic cleaning of hard and semi-hard floors
  • External cleaning
  • Manual street cleaning
  • Mechanised street cleaning
  • Glazed surfaces
  • Water fed poles
  • Work at heights
  • Carry out maintenance and minor repairs
  • Clean high risk areas
  • Clean confined spaces
  • Clean food areas
  • Cleaning of specialist electronic equipment
  • Internal cleaning of passenger transport

Entry requirements

You must be working in a cleaning capacity.

Possible next step

Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning Science, Introductory Certificate in Team Leading, Certificate in Team Leading or Level 3 Diploma in Cleaning Services Supervision.
