“Welcome to the exciting sports department at Hackney Community College.

Our facilities are amazing; in fact, they’re so good, they were used as a training venue by the Olympic basketball teams in the London 2012 Games! We’re also ideally located – right next to the Olympic park which has an exciting sporting future.

I came to HCC as they have a strong reputation in sport; developing young people across a range of sporting opportunities. We get an opportunity to try out lots of different types of sports such as rowing, table tennis, cycling, indoor golf, gym work, football, badminton, basketball, volleyball – plus a range of adapted sport for people with disabilities.

The courses start at level 2 – and go right up to level 5. And they also have strong links with UEL – so as well as a good progression route into HE – we can attend lectures there during our level 3 courses. It’s really good as their facilities are the best in the country – and are used by the USA Olympic team.

You’ll also complete a stewarding course as part of your qualification, enabling you to get paid work while you study. Plus, you’ll work with diverse groups and primary schools – helping children to engage in healthy activities – all of which looks great on your CV!
Alongside your course, you can also join one of our winning Academy teams: basketball, cricket, athletics or football.

And HCC is the only inner London College to be granted the licence to deliver the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE). It’s designed to meet the needs of elite athletes aged 16-18 who wish to develop their sporting career and work towards other college qualifications at the same time. Students can also achieve coaching qualifications and experience to back up their on-court careers.

If sport is your major interest, then you’ll need a qualification – and there’s no better place than at HCC. The staff really do care. So come and have a look round and see why us students love it so much! “
