Be the best speaker in town
Our ESOL courses are perfect if you have arrived in the UK within the past three years. They’ll give you the confidence to go on to other courses and generally settle in to life in the UK. You can also choose to study English with another subject.

“Hackney is really diverse – with people from all over the world living here. It was really hard when I arrived in England, as my English wasn’t very good. I wanted to be able to fit in with – and contribute to my community, but I wasn’t able to.
Hackney Community College has changed all that. I’ve really been able to make something of my life.
The teachers are fantastic. They care about their students and help us not just with work – but with other problems too. They also direct us to their colleagues who can help with things like housing, benefits, careers advice and lots more. They really understand you, even if your English isn’t very good.
It’s a very happy and friendly place to study – and I’ve made lots of friends here.
I’m now able to talk to my children and help them with their homework – and I can even talk to other parents when I pick up my children from school!
Just as importantly, I’ve gained my independence back – and have made some really good friends. I feel part of the community that I’m living in now.
For young people, there are ESOL courses which progress onto GCSEs – and many students go on to study at University! Other students continue onto embedded courses – which is where you learn English alongside another course – such as Hospitality or Childcare. I’m also learning how to use a computer, so I hope to be able to get a job when I finish studying.
The College has really good facilities, including interactive whiteboards which make it easy and fun to learn English. The campus is big – with lots of space where I can meet with friends in between our lessons.
People like me do really well here; the success rates for the courses are excellent – and are well above the national average.
I am so grateful to Hackney Community College; they really have changed our lives and given us all the confidence we need to succeed. We now have the English that employers are looking for and I know I’ll be able to get a decent job when I finish studying here.
I know how to speak, listen and write – and most importantly, people understand now!”
