There has been an encouraging resurgence in Cricket at the college and plans are afoot to bolster our fixture list.

The photos below show Hackney Community College Cricketers enjoying a day of hard work in a masterclass with high-profile cricket figure John Barclay and The Arundel Castle Cricket Foundation.

The team from Hackney enjoyed a day of cricket training in the idyllic ground above Arundel Castle, part of The Duke of Norfolk’s estate. They impressed organisers with an array of skills, and were eager to grasp coaching tips from John Barclay, alongside Hackney’s own coach Kym Osborne.

The young cricketers excelled in a skills masterclass in the morning, and put the skills to good use in two 20-over matches in the afternoon. The team was set different winning targets in order to test their tactical acumen, alongside their undoubted individual skills.

We have the first ever Football Academy in Hackney! We’ve only been in operation just over one year and we’re really proud of the fact that we are Champions League winners! As part of the UEFA Festival of Sport, HCC took part in the finals of a London wide five-a-side tournament in Hyde Park in May 2011.

In a physical but entertaining game, Hackney needed all their team spirit and character, finding themselves 4 – 2 down against North West London. Fighting hard, Hackney drew level and with seconds to go the score was 4-4. In the final seconds of the game Hackney forward Roddy Lemba broke through to score the winner!

Coach Donald Brown was very proud of his team who were a credit to themselves and the College, impressing everyone with their skill and discipline.

Hackney Community College is one of just a handful in the country to offer the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (basketball).
