Women’s cup: Home to Hackney

Congratulations to Hackney Community College Women’s basketball team! They’ve regained their rightful place as the National Champions for 2012.

In a close and competitive match Hackney Women fought hard against the North East representatives to take the national trophy for the East Region and bring it home to Hackney.

Congratulations to Coach Andrea Norton and assistant Jeff Danchie who kept the girls focused and motivated throughout a tough weekend of sport.

A great all round team effort from: Rishmai Barrow, DeeDee Samoye, Rachel Austin, Bianca Maxwell, Weris Osman, Christelle Lewis, Sandrine Lucas and captain Naomi Hart.

A credit to themselves and their college. Well done girls.

2010-11 season: Hackney Community College’s Women’s Basketball team came 4th in the National Championships – making us the most successful basketball programme in the country.

2010-11 Girls’ team: Monica Dias, Christelle Lewis, Rishmai Barrow, Naomi Hart, Rachel Austin, Elicia Yelila, Deedee Somoye, Georgia Stephenson (not pictured).
Despite not winning overall, the girls’ team really came together during the competition.

The Championships were held in Bath on the 9/10 April.

Their most impressive achievement to date is to see off all opposition to become East region champions and represent the East of Britain at the British College National Championships. This will be held at Bath University where Hackney Women will be defending their crown as holders of the National Championships against schools and colleges from all over Britain.
